What’s in a workshop?
In addition to working directly with individual schools, I offer workshops for educator networks and professional learning communities. These sessions are designed to support teachers who are on a professional learning journey—whether they are exploring new approaches to teaching and learning or looking to deepen their existing practice. The workshops are grounded in practical classroom application, with a focus on middle years education. They provide opportunities for collaboration, reflection, and planning, and are suitable for teams at different stages of curriculum development or instructional design. Workshops can be offered as one- or two-day sessions and are available in both in- person and virtual formats. Content and structure can be adapted in consultation with the host school or organization to meet the specific needs of the group.
Assessment to Support Student Learning
−This workshop explores effective assessment practices to enhance student learning and engagement. Participants will discover how to use formative assessments to provide meaningful feedback, promote a growth mindset, and guide student progress using practical tools from the Formative Assessment Toolkit. The workshop also covers designing authentic summative assessments that accurately reflect student achievement, incorporating best-fit grading approaches, and differentiating tasks for diverse learners. Additionally, it emphasizes the role of assessment as learning by fostering student autonomy through self-assessment and metacognitive strategies.
Mastering Inquiry-Based Learning
+This workshop introduces educators to the core principles and practices of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), exploring what it is, its benefits, when and where to use it, and how to effectively implement it in the classroom. Participants will engage with the stages of the inquiry cycle, learning how to teach each phase with clarity and purpose. Practical strategies for designing effective questions and differentiating IBL experiences will be shared. Throughout the workshop, participants will use a provided IBL lesson planner template to design their own inquiry-based lesson, with structured time for collaboration, feedback, and refinement—ensuring a complete, ready-to-use plan by the end. In addition, educators will receive a customizable scope and sequence of information literacy skills to integrate into their planning, supporting both horizontal and vertical alignment of skill progression across subjects and grade levels. This hands-on, reflective workshop equips participants with the tools, strategies, and confidence to create engaging, student-centered inquiry experiences.
Conceptual and Contextual Approaches to Curriculum Design
+This workshop offers educators an engaging, hands-on introduction to concept-based teaching and learning. Participants will explore the four key stages of conceptual development through interactive group activities and guided discussions. The workshop introduces practical strategies such as concept mapping, conceptual inquiry, and designing learning through meaningful contexts. Educators will also receive exclusive access to the Conceptual Teaching & Learning Toolkit, featuring over 50 flexible classroom engagements, along with a ready-to-use unit planner template. Throughout the workshop, participants will actively build their own concept-driven unit plan, with dedicated time for feedback and refinement. In addition to immediate classroom application, the workshop offers a valuable opportunity to begin developing a conceptual and contextual vertical curriculum across grade levels—ensuring a sequenced, cohesive learning experience that fosters understanding and transferable thinking.
